A Brief History of Belmont Baptist Church
In September 1950, a revival was held in the Belmont Community of Calhoun, Georgia. During the revival a survey was taken and the results of that survey indicated a very high interest in starting a Baptist Church in the Belmont Community. Two men, Rev. Henry Holland and Rev. H.F.(Fite) Barnette, were instrumental leaders in this process.
Following much prayer, planning, and organizing, Belmont Baptist Church was born on November 19, 1950. The Church first met in a clubhouse, which was located behind the Gordon County Fire Department. The Seventh Day Adventist Church was located on South Wall Street (Hwy. 41) at that time, and offered their building for Sunday worship to the new congregation. Belmont gladly accepted their offer and worshipped there until their first building was completed. Rev. H.F. (Fite) Barnette was called as their first pastor. Through our first 60 years, we have had 10 men to serve as our pastor. Dr. John Allen served the longest tenure of 15 years. Jeff Hawkins, our current pastor, began serving in July of 1999. Belmont will celebrate its 60th Anniversary on November 19, 2010.

Take exit 312, turn left onto HWY 53. The Church is located 1.2 miles on the right just before Office Depot and Wal-Mart.
From I-75 South (from Dalton, Chattanooga)
Take exit 312, turn right onto HWY 53. The church is located 1.2 miles on the right just before Office Depot and Wal-Mart.
From Hwy 53 East (from Rome)
Go right at the split just before you enter town. The church will be located on your left just after the third traffic signal and just past Office Depot and Wal-Mart.
